Delete your Ochess account
Applies to the Ochess website (ochess.app), the Ochess app for Android on Google Play and the Ochess app for iPhone on the App Store, all run by Ochess.
You can delete your Ochess account and the data tied to it at any time, with or without the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Three ways to delete your account
In the Ochess app for Android or iPhone
- Open the Account tab.
- Tap Delete account, then Delete to confirm.
If you signed in with Apple, you will first be asked to confirm with your Apple Account, and we also ask Apple to remove Ochess's access to it.
On the website
- Sign in at
ochess.app. - Open the menu under the gear icon at the top right and choose My Profile.
- Press Delete Account at the bottom of the page, then Yes, delete.
By email, without signing in
Write to support@ochess.app from the email address of your account, with the subject "Account deletion request". We delete the account within 30 days and reply to confirm. If you write from a different address, we will first ask you to confirm that the account is yours. If you signed in with Apple and hid your email, write from any address and include the address shown on the Account tab (it ends in @privaterelay.appleid.com); we will confirm by replying to that address.
What is deleted
- Your account: email address, username, profile details and sign-in details.
- Your imported games, their analysis reports, your personal opening statistics and your repertoire, which are stored on our own server.
- Your opening labs, including shared ones, and the files that belong to them.
- Your training progress and review schedule, your direct messages and conversations, and your account activity log.
- Everything else stored under your account, such as your playing-style statistics.
- When you delete from an app, the course progress, review schedule, puzzle progress and copy of your labs stored on that phone are cleared too, and the phone is signed out.
What is kept, and for how long
- Deleted data is gone from our databases at once. Residual copies in Google Cloud's own systems and backups expire within about six months (Google's stated maximum is 180 days).
- Emails you exchanged with us are kept for up to 3 years after the last message, to handle follow-up questions.
- Technical logs of requests to our servers (such as the time of a request and the IP address it came from) are not part of your account and are deleted automatically on a rolling basis.
Uninstalling the app removes what it stored on your phone, but does not delete your account. On an iPhone, your sign-in may stay in the phone's keychain after the app is removed, so sign out first if you are giving the phone to someone else; copies of the app's files in an existing iCloud or computer backup stay in that backup until it is replaced or deleted.
