Why it works
Black knows the queen is heading for f7, so 2...g6 kicking it looks like the obvious cure. But it walks into the OTHER threat: 2.Qh5 attacked the e5 pawn as well. 3.Qxe5+ picks up the pawn with check, forks the h8 rook along the long diagonal, and after the forced block White's queen escorts a whole rook home.
Refutation
2...Nc6! is the move — it defends e5 first. Only after the pawn is covered does Black play ...g6 (or meet 3.Bc4 with ...g6 4.Qf3 Nf6). Defend against both threats in the right order and the wayward queen becomes a target, not an attacker.
